This is a great article
about using the Web for lead generation for your local business.
Are you
using the Internet for local lead generation in Knoxville, TN? If so, you might be a little disappointed with
the results you're getting. The problem may not lie in the mechanics of your approach, but in the nature of
the traffic you're sending to your site.
It's easy to become single-mindedly focused on traffic numbers when you're trying
to build leads. You want to send as many people to your squeeze or landing page as possible in hopes of creating a
large prospect list. However, that's only half of the issue. Traffic is essential, but it needs to be the right
traffic if you want to produce results.
Targeted traffic will produce more sign-ups even when there's less volume. You
want to guide visitors to your site who are legitimately interested in what you're doing and who have a high
propensity to become a live lead.
How do you do it? You probably won't need to change the structure of your
approach. Instead, you'll need to look at some of the components and to "tweak them" to optimize your lead
generation power.
Keywords are one example. You want to steer away from more generic keywords and
tangentially-related terms that have a small propensity of bringing motivated prospects. Instead, go after the
keywords that your target audience will be using. It can be tempting to go after a term with high search volume to
bring more eyeballs to your page, but you'll often be better off isolating smaller-volume terms that are more
precisely related to your offer or that evidence a really keen interest in the product or service you're
supplying.
Of course, you'll want to take a look at all of traffic sources you're targeting.
Ask yourself which ones are really sending the "right kind of person" in your direction. If you're selling a
high-end product and you're discovering that one of your approaches is primarily sending people who are looking for
an "entry level" version, you'll want to retool accordingly.
The bottom line is that you don't necessarily need more traffic. You need more
targeted traffic. Getting the right people is more important than getting more people when it comes to successful
lead generation online.
You can do both, if you have the time, resources and energy. However, you're going
to get better results by focusing on attracting targeted traffic rich in potential prospects.
